what could be sweeter

Maladicta had needed to get the hell out of the compound. There were too many people on edge, there was F to look for- and not find, which was even worse than finding her- and in general she was just tired and annoyed and feeling strangely harassed. The hot springs helped. She'd gone, found them pleasantly free of people (though it was the middle of a very hot day, so who would be there, was the question), and had soaked, bathed, let the day wash away. She'd dressed and gone back to the hut, not the IPD, and had done absolutely nothing for about an hour but lounged on the bed and read. eventually she let the book fall to the side and just stared at the ceiling, hair still damp and drying in waves around her face, and enjoyed the breeze up the mountain base and the quiet.

"That was the idea," Maladicta sighed, turning her head to see Sacharissa in the doorway, and smiled immediately and without conscious thought.

"I needed to be somewhere quiet, with no paperwork, and no crazy people. No breaking mirrors, no biting, none of it. I never thought I'd bother with it, but sometimes I do wish we had days off."

"It's hard to have a weekend when you're a volunteer," Sacharissa agreed. Usually this didn't bother her, however. She often found she had more free time even than she would have liked. It was difficult, some days, to fill the hours at the paper when they were no longer printing daily.

Crossing the room, she moved to sit beside Maladicta, bending to press a kiss to the top of her head as she did so.

Maladicta smiled a little, then tilted her head back, stretching her throat, to catch Sacharissa's mouth for a moment, pressing a lingering kiss to her lips.

"Mmn," she sighed, letting her head fall back against the sheets.

"Unfortunately so."

"Of course," Sacharissa said, smiling as she stroked Maladicta's hair, "being a volunteer means no one can make you work either." There was no real strength behind the words, simply a kind of idle pleasure as she relaxed beside Maladicta.

Maladicta hummed quietly, letting her eyes close under the touch. There was something infinitely calming about Sacharissa's presence.

"I bet Vimes would find that reasoning somehow flawed." She opened her eyes again to smile up at the other woman and turned onto her side, lifting a hand to rest at Sacharissa's hip.

"Hullo."

"There's a lot of reasoning Vimes finds flawed," Sacharissa said, waving a hand carelessly. She was beginning to sink down, closer and closer to lying down herself. She didn't feel it was necessary to point out that it was one of the few things on which Vimes and William would likely have agreed. "Hello."

Maladicta reached a hand up to skim her fingertips along Sacharissa's cheek, then neck, before sliding the hand back into her hair and gently working her fingers against the other woman's scalp.

"We should build a fence or a moat or something, and then I'll skip work and there won't be anything anyone can do about it."

"I'm not sure they could stand up to you if you didn't want to go anyway," Sacharissa informed her, sighing softly. She slid further down, lying all the way now, and curled closer. She smiled, tilting her chin up higher. "Besides, I doubt Vimes would go to the trouble of climbing up here just to make you go to work anyway."

"I think he'd be fairly shocked into leaving without getting a word out," Maladicta said, smirking a bit wryly, turning her body toward Sacharissa's.

"I'm not sure he'd be shocked necessarily," Sacharissa said thoughtfully, "but it is possible his mind would be permanently scarred, yes."

Maladicta laughed a little, and turned her face up to kiss Sacharissa a few times.

"Mmn," she murmured, "possible, yes. Might be worth it just to see, but then," she skirted her hand down along Sacharissa's shoulder, arm, hip, "probably not."

"I'm not sure I'd particularly care to," Sacharissa agreed with a little sigh, tilting her head back against the pillow. Sliding a hand up to rest against Maladicta's cheek, she brushed her thumb along the soft skin there and leaned in to kiss her again.

Maladicta smiled into the kiss, slipping an arm under Sacharissa's waist, against the sheets, pressing closer so as to properly tangle their legs and press closer against her.

"I can certainly imagine better endeavors to pursue," she drawled cheerfully, which was a skill. She pressed her forehead against Sacharissa's so the tips of their noses touched.

This was better than a day off.

"That would be one of them," Sacharissa agreed softly. She nodded slightly, her nose brushing against Maladicta's as she slid her hand down over Maladicta's shoulder, arm, just over her waist to rest at her hip, drawing the other woman closer yet.

Maladicta smiled more and let herself be drawn, sighing very quietly and brushing her mouth against Sacharissa's as she did, and slid her hand into the other woman's air and arched her back a little so they were flush against each other.

Sacharissa was pleased now that she had decided to come home when she had. Tangling her legs with Maladicta's, she tilted her head back into the touch of that familiar hand, her lips still against Maladicta's.

Maladicta wasn't a giggler, but she would allow small, quiet laughs which were not giggles from time to time and she allowed one now, smiling against Sacharissa's mouth the trailing her lips in soft presses along her cheek and jaw to her neck.

The reaction was infectious, and Sacharissa tilted her head back with a small, soft laugh of her own, her hands stretching up to tangle - gently - in Maladicta's hair. Shifting to the side, she punctuated her motion with a sigh.

Oh, sigh. Maladicta nuzzled, very softly, with the tip of her nose and only the swell of her lips, Sacharissa's throat. She was very, very aware of what she was doing. She had even discussed with William, once, that she had wanted to do this, more or less, and very specifically with Sacharissa, but she had refrained. It was more instinctual, at this point, to refrain than to just... that was, to...

She placed a very small, very slow, slightly wet kiss against the other woman's skin, the tip of her tongue pressing between her lips.
